Dr. Heavin Maier – Optometric Physician
The Spark Behind Eyes For Life
Dr. Heavin Maier entered the field of optometry after recognizing a gap in the patient experience—especially in traditional, fast-paced clinical settings where patients often felt rushed, unheard, and like just another number. She saw a need for vision care that was not only medically excellent but also deeply personal and rooted in trust.
How Dr. Maier Approaches Care
In 2005, Dr. Maier founded Eyes For Life with a clear mission: to create a practice where patients could receive personalized, attentive care in an independent setting. From the very beginning, her approach centered on listening carefully, investing time in every appointment, and building long-term relationships. Over the years, she’s adopted cutting-edge technology—including Lipiflow for chronic dry eye and Neurolens for migraines and digital eye strain—to solve specific problems patients face every day. Most recently, Dr. Maier became certified in Neurovisual Medicine to treat Binocular Vision Disorder (BVD)—a condition that often goes undiagnosed but can dramatically affect a person’s daily life. This certification has deepened her passion for improving lives through customized care.
Trusted, Life-Changing Care
As a result of this patient-first approach, Eyes For Life has grown into one of Spokane’s most trusted vision care clinics. Patients frequently describe their experience as welcoming, unrushed, and life-changing. Many have developed friendships with Dr. Maier and her team, and word-of-mouth referrals have fueled the practice’s continued growth. Patients leave not only with clearer vision—but with peace of mind, confidence in their care, and a stronger connection to their provider.
Outside the Office
Dr. Maier grew up in Kenai, Alaska, and has lived across the country—but calls Spokane home with her husband, Dr. Mitchell Maier, who is also an optometrist. She earned her bachelor’s in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University before pursuing her Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in Oregon. She is Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, a distinction earned through rigorous post-doctorate examination and advanced continuing education.
Outside of work, Dr. Maier stays busy raising two children and caring for a lively assortment of poultry—and recently, Highland cows. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, hiking, downhill skiing, high-intensity interval training, and the occasional obstacle course race. She also has a deep love for bluegrass and acoustic folk music.
